You think switching from that malware-ful, laggy Android, old-fashioned BlackBerry, or expensive iPhone to the safe, secure, and amazing Windows Phone is difficult? We don’t think so. We know that you may be worrying about transferring your music, videos, and contacts from your old phone to your newly purchased Lumia, but trust us, it will be as easy as breeze. What about apps? Since you are going to cross over platforms, transferring the actual apps is not supported, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have them! In fact, for Nokia Deutschland (Germany), switching Lumia is as easy as 1-2-3! Let’s find out how.
The Nokia branch in Germany had put up a new page in their website which guides new Lumia users on how to properly set up the smartphone after switching from Android, BlackBerry, or iPhone. The three easy steps are as follows (translated from HERE):
- Copy your old data. Install app the welcome home to Windows phone on your computer, to move all your photos, videos and contacts at once. Connect your old phone to your PC. Check the synchronization settings and select the data to be copied
- Find your old favorite apps on your new smartphone. AppSwitch analyzes the apps on your old phone and helps you to install the same or similar apps and Windows phone store to buy them. (You can download AppSwitch from this link, but you may want to change phone region to US to do so.)
- Synchronize your new phone with your PC. So everything is on the cutting edge, sync all of your cloud accounts on your old phone and you then add your new Nokia Lumia. Or do you have a Mac? The free Windows phone app for Mac helps you to synchronize your cloud accounts on your old phone. Then, you can add your new Nokia Lumia.
The website also comes with a link to download English instructions on switching from other handset to Lumia!
The campaign for switching to Lumia is growing strong that other branches had devised their own way of guiding users on setting up their new smartphone. Nokia UK, for instance, had posted instructional videos for former Android, iPhone, or BlackBerry users. Here’s one video on switching from iPhone (the other videos had almost the same instructions, and you can watch those in the Nokia UK YouTube channel):
