Nokia-Lumia-1520-unbox-1 Phablets are new breed of mobile devices designed to straddle the functions of a smartphone and tablet. Phablets are characterized by the use of large screens, typically between 5 to 6.9 inches. As the mobile technology is gearing towards larger devices, Nokia has brought us the Lumia 1520, their first Windows Phablet. It sports a massive 6-inch screen with superior display quality. Nokia didn’t fail to impress us on their first phablet encounter, they made sure that its more than at par with other phablets running on Android.

It felt so much excitement when I opened the Lumia 1520 out of the box. It’s really beautiful, no doubt. The look and feel are mutual. Yes, it’s big but it gives you a good feeling when you’re holding it. The design is seamless. Despite of a bigger camera sensor, the Finns has managed to make it slim (162.8 x 85.4 x 8.7mm) compared to the Lumia 920 with 10.7mm thick.

What strikes me is its glorious display. The 1080p Full HD IPS LCD screen gives out a superb viewing experience at 367ppi. The colors and saturation is pleasing to the eyes. The  viewing angles are decent, color accuracy is intact even near-180-degree.

It sports a powerful Snapdragon 800 chipset, 2GB RAM and Adreno 330 graphics processing unit. It is the fist Windows Phone to cater such high-end specs. As expected, its faster and more responsive compared to dual core Lumias. Transition effects are smoother and applications opens up quickly than before. Though we know that Windows Phone runs fast on a low powered spec, the bump on its horse power shows significant improvements on its speed.

The 21 Megapixel PureView camera is the crème de la crème of the Lumia 1520. The impressive Zeiss lens allows you to capture great shots in both daylight and lowlight. The Optical Image Stabilization makes your shots blurry free and brighter shots at night. The huge sensor does the oversampling technique resulting to lossless image quality up to 2x zoom. Video recording is promising. You can take videos up to 1080p at 30fps with great audio quality – thanks to 4 dual HAAC microphones.

Unboxing is the most exciting part of our review, seeing a beautifully crafted device is incomparable.

So far, I’m pretty impressed by its design and construction. Specs-wise it’s the most powerful Windows Phone so far. If you are looking for a phablet and want to try something new, the Lumia 1520 is one of the best option for you. Since this is a start of the year, I think its the best time for you to go try out for something different, something new.
