HMD has recently announced three new Nokia smartphones in May. The Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1 are the successors of the initial wave of phones last year. The highest-end phone starts at $220 and the latter is at $160 and $115, respectively.
The new Nokia smartphones are worth paying attention to because of Google’s Android One program. This means they run stock Android and receive monthly security updates. Nokia also promises two years of major OS updates and three years of security updates on all of its smartphones.
New Nokia smartphones availability
Nokia will start launching these new devices as early as mid-July in some markets in Asia. However, only the Nokia 2.1 and 3.1 are the ones to be launched in most markets. The Nokia 5.1 will only become available at selected countries.
Like last year’s Nokia 5, this device is milled out of series 6000 aluminum. It offers 18:9 FHD+ form factor which makes 5.5-inch display easier to hold compare to its predecessor. It is now powered by a MediaTek Helio P18 chipset, which offers 40% more performance over last year’s Snapdragon 430. Other features include, 2GB of RAM with 16GB of storage, or 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage, microSD slot, 8MP front shooter, FM radio, and 2970mAh battery.
The Nokia 3.1 enjoys a 5.2-inch HD+ display and powered by the 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6750 chipset. This new chipset offers 50% boost in performance from its predecessor. The design sees an aluminum mid-frame with chamfered edges and polycarbonate back, but with a slimmer and sexier look.
Other specs include 2GB/3GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB of internal storage, microSD slot, 13MP camera, 8MP front camera, and a 2990mAh battery.
The new Nokia 3 will be sold in three color options — Blue/Copper, Black/Chrome, and White/Iron.
The Nokia 2.1 is powered by Snapdragon 425, which offers four Cortex A53 cores clocked up to 1.4GHz. This device delivers 50% increased in performance compared to its predecessor. It has a decent 16:9 5.5-inch 720p display and polycarbonate design. One of the top key selling point of the new Nokia 2 is the 4000mAh battery, which delivers 2-day battery life in a single charge. Under the hood, is the Android Go Oreo operating system.
You will get 1GB of RAM along with 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 8MP camera, 5MP front shooter, and Bluetooth 4.2. The most interesting part is its front-firing dual stereo speakers.
