Microsoft is reportedly planning massive layoffs, set to announce thousands of job cuts this week in a proposal to restructure its salesforce. The plan is to emphasize Azure cloud sales, rather than boxed software, which is becoming a fading business.
The expected job cuts will affect the company’s thousands of workforce globally. Last year around this time, Microsoft said it would cut 2,850 jobs related to its failed smartphone business. Microsoft had more than 121,000 employees as of March 31 — up 6 percent from June 30, 2016. This includes 10,000 staff from its $26.2 billion LinkedIn acquisition.
