As a smartphone user, one of the things that I consider when buying a new device is the extent of support that the manufacturer will provide when it comes to OS updates. I was an avid Lumia user and while Microsoft was able to release updates, all ended with Windows 10 (sadly, my Lumia 920 is not officially compatible with the said update). Having said that, are we expecting the same fate with the Nokia-branded Android smartphones? From the recent announcements made during the Nokia 8 launch, we might be on better situation.
So far, HMD Global had kept their promise of consumers “getting regular updates to help you stay on top of features and security” when the latest version of the Android OS was release. All Nokia Android devices (3, 5, 6, and 8), which initally run on Android Nougat, was automatically updated to Android Oreo shortly after it was publicly announced last August. But the fun doesn’t stop there.
What’s even more exciting is the fact that we’ll get the next update after Oreo once Google releases it to the public. As revealed by Shannon Mead, Country Manager at HMD Global for Philippines, Singapore, and Pacific Islands, during the official Nokia 8 launch last week, all Nokia Android smartphones will get the “Android P” update once it’s available. The amazing people behind these devices are definitely doing a great job with the updates and we are extremely satisfied knowing that we won’t be left out.
So, have you already guessed what will be the name of the next Android update? Pretzel? Popsicle? Pancake? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section or thru our social media sites.
