Over the past decade, Nokia has become the top mobile company in the world for 14 years through their great innovation and amazing devices. Nokia has greatly focused on mobile architecture and design which became their trademark. They have released countless handset designs even those beyond our imagination. Nokia has led the mobile space beyond reach of its competitors.
“The battle of devices has now become a war of ecosystems, where ecosystems include not only the hardware and software of the device, but developers, applications, ecommerce, advertising, search, social applications, location-based services, unified communications and many other things. Our competitors aren’t taking our market share with devices; they are taking our market share with an entire ecosystem. This means we’re going to have to decide how we either build, catalyse or join an ecosystem.” – Stephen Elop
Mobile computing has become more diverse over the past years. Nokia has learned that the current war is no longer a battle of devices but a war of the ecosystem. This diversity has changed the way people make use of their phones thus, their preferences. It’s no longer about designs and architecture but of ‘apps’. Apps have become an integral part of the ecosystem and I must say that this affects the choices of the consumers today – more apps the better.
Developers are the geniuses behind the apps that we are enjoying on our phones. Apps have greatly changed the way we interact with our devices thus making the user experience more interactive. Nokia’s key to success is to have a strong ecosystem and a great number of apps aside from its great hardware design and innovation.
